Southern Farm Enterprises

On a farm northeast of Hays, several men have banded together to operate a business partnership. Southern Farm Enterprises is the next generation of entrepreneurial spirit for individuals interested in working for themselves. For some of the men it is an alternative day service rather than attend center based services. For other members of the partnership it is supplemental income, and an opportunity to perhaps work exclusively some day for their own business. The primary income for the partnership is lawn services which includes mowing, spraying, and grounds care. When the group is not busy with lawn jobs they also offering moving assistance and cut firewood for retail sale. The partnership additionally offers snow removal during winter months and pursue activities that have income potential. The partnership retains a connection to farm practices by raising chickens and other livestock, and a few of the individuals plant a private garden for personal use.


Field of DreamsSouthern Farm Enterprises receives assistance from a business manager and book keeper. The partnership owns all of its equipment which includes mowers, pick-up truck, tractor, tillers and a trailer. The partnership repairs most of it equipment and has several business accounts in the community of Hays. The goal of Southern Farm Enterprises is to offer individuals the opportunity to be a practicing business owner and to provide them with a choice to traditional day services.
