The DSNWK Transportation Department oversees all agency owned vehicles in all areas served by DSNWK. Vehicles are separated into staff vehicles, vehicles used to transport individuals served, and vehicles used to provide service to the "public".
The staff vehicles are primarily for the use of DSNWK staff to attend training/meetings, however when needed, staff vehicles are used to transport individuals served.
The vehicles designated for transportation of individuals served are shared to provide transportation needed for services provided via the various departments within DSNWK. Twenty six of the vehicles utilized to provide transportation for individuals served are funded by Kansas Dept of Transportation (KDOT) through capital purchase grants.
The "public" services provided include ACCESS, CARE/Van, SAFE/RIDE, and two fixed routes.
- ACCESS provides transportation in Hays and Ellis County. The local funding source for ACCESS is the City of Hays and Ellis County.
- CARE/Van is an "intercity" bus service providing transportation between Colby and Hays, plus providing transportation to the counties surrounding Ellis County. Currently the local funding is provided by Greyhound/KDOT.
- SAFE/Ride is a service started via the backing of "a partnership for a Safer Community." This service is provided in the City of Hays on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 pm until 3:00 am the following day.
- Tiger Route stops twice an hour at various locations in Hays. The service has a local funding source of Fort Hays State University. There is no fare charged for this service.
- The Stockton Route has pickup and delivery in Hays, Plainville, and Stockton.
These vehicles are partially funded via grants through KDOT. The grants include funding for the purchase of the vehicle (capital) and operating expenses.
