While the Plumb street home does not have a basement it has a newly remodeled addition to the house which includes an additional living room, bedrooms and bathroom. The house also has an attached 1 car garage which is used for recreational activities, exercise equipment, storage, etc. This home is equipped with an interconnected smoke detection system and egress windows from each bedroom. It is in walking distance of Prairie Developmental Center, shopping facilities, office buildings, etc. A day service component is offered at Prairie Developmental Center, the home itself and the Atwood community.
809 S. 6th Street - Provides 24 hour visual supervision as specified in the individuals life plan with sleep overnight staff who are available to respond to emergencies when needed. Wheel chair accessible vehicles provide transportation to persons served. The Volga homes offers a creative and unique service component for persons who are suffering from medical complications or who have a medically fragile diagnosis. A DSNWK nurse is assigned specifically to this home and provides daily medical support to include but not be limited to oversight of medication administration, diabetic injections, gastro-intestinal feedings, etc. All employees in this home are certified medication aids. The women residing in this location are young, vibrant women that lead active lifestyles and are very much involved with their families and the Hays community. 2822 E. Hwy 24 - Provides 24 hour visual supervision with overnight awake staff. This is a very spacious home with a fireplace, 2 car garage, whirlpool tub and a large fenced in backyard. The E. Hwy 24 home has bedroom space for 6 persons (male or female) with a full finished basement that offers additional bedroom space, bathroom and a recreational room. This home has egress windows from each bedroom and offers semi-country living as it is located on the edge of town. A day service component is offered at Kobler Developmental Center and the Hill City community.
207 S. 3rd Street - Provides 24 hour visual supervision with overnight awake staff. This home has bedroom space for 6 persons (male or female) with a full finished basement, three bathrooms, a two car garage and has egress windows from each bedroom. In addition this home offers a spacious fenced in backyard, interconnected smoke detection system and a detached large storage shed which can be used for additional storage and/or hobbies. A day service component is offered at Kobler Developmental Center and the Hill City community.
Norton
1115 Eisenhower - This home is a small bed Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded and is licensed by the Kansas Department on Aging. 24 hour visual supervision is provided during all waking hours to include 1.5 overnight awake staff. This home is equipped with an automated sprinkler system and an interconnected smoke detection system and has bedroom space for 6 persons (preferably female). Wheel chair accessible vehicles provide transportation for persons served. The Eisenhower home was opened in 1988 after the closure of Norton State Hospital and has maintained long term staff once employed by the hospital. Certified medication aids are on duty at all times and provide support with dispensing of medication, basic first aid and other duties delegated by a registered nurse. OT/PT services are provided by a certified rehabilitation aid. A day service component is offered at Frontier Developmental Center and the Norton community.
602 North Grant Street - This home is a small bed Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded and is licensed by the Kansas Department on Aging. 24 hour visual supervision is provided during all waking hours to include 1.5 overnight awake staff. The Grant street home is an old two story home with many charming characteristics, spacious living quarters and bedroom space for 6 persons (preferably male). A fire escape is located on the top floor of the building. Wheelchair accessible vehicles provide transportation for persons served. This home was opened in 1988 after the closure of Norton State Hospital and maintains long term staff once employed by the hospital.
