The Kid-Link program provides early intervention services to children ages birth through two years in their natural living environment. These services are provided at no cost to the families, and are for those who have a diagnosed disability, are delayed in one or more developmental areas, or are at risk of developmental delay. Providing services in the home allows for a comfortable, natural response.
Children are referred to Kid-Link in a variety of ways. Referrals can be made by any concerned person, including the parent or a community agency. Many referrals are the result of individual screenings or from developmental screening clinics. Screenings are available upon request at any time.
If screening results indicate a possible delay, an evaluation is recommended. If the evaluation(s) confirm skill delays in one or more areas, services are available through the program. The evaluation results, along with the needs, concerns and priorities of the child and family are considered. The information is used to develop an Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP), which is the basis of the services to be provided.
In addition to services for the child, family support is also provided. However, it is recognized that planning and coordination from other local agencies, concerned professionals and community members is necessary to meet all of the needs for families. This, in addition to the cooperation and commitment from parents and professionals, helps to ensure the success of the program.
A child exits the program when he/she moves from the service area, a parent requests termination of services, or becomes ineligible for services (reaches appropriate developmental age or turns 3 years old). Prior to a child turning three, future needs are determined and a transition plan is developed, if needed.
