Kid-Link - When Concerns Exist
Kid-Link services are provided in the child's natural environments with parents activiely involved in the program. The service delivery model provides the opportunity for the home-educators and parent to plan and work together in meeting the specific needs of the child. Teaching aid, toys and materials are used to make learning fun during the home education sessinos. Some possible indications of concerns may include:
Hearing
Speech and Language Difficulties
Hearing Difficulties
Frequently Rubs Ears
Frequent Ear Aches or Runny Nose
Talks in a Very Low or Soft Voice
Turns Same Ear Toward a Sound When Trying to Hear
Seeing
Appears to have Difficulty Seeing
Hold Head in an Awkward Position when Trying to Look at Someone or an Object
Has Reddened, Watering, or Encrusted Eyes
Sometimes or Always Crosses One or Both Eyes
Covers One Eye
Behavior
Appears to be Restless, Irritable, and Unhappy
Appears to Prefer to be Left Alone, Doesn't Want to Play with Others
Kicks, Bites, or Hurts Others
Thinking and Understanding
Appears to Have Difficulty Understanding
Does Not React to Name by Age 1 Year
Does Not Point to Parts of Face by Age 2 Years
Does Not Understand Simple Stories by Age 3 Years
Coordination and Movement
Difficulty with Balance
Difficulty Learning to Sit, Crawl, or Walk
Does Not Hold Head Up by 4 months
Does Not Walk by 18 months
Does Not Walk Up Stairs by Age 3 Years
Established Risk for Developmental Delay
Children ages birth through two with a diagnosed mental or physical condition that has a high probability of resulting in a developmental delay are at established risk for developmental delay and are eligible for early intervention services. Children at risk of substantial developmental delay according to informed clinical opinion are eligible for early intervention services.
