Children & Youth Services

Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas, Inc. has made the commitment to provide support to children and youth and their families in appropriate settings. Through parent and professional collaboration, DSNWK provides family support in all facets of the life of a child/youth with a disability, to secure appropriate community-based and family centered services. Supports can be found in the home, schools, and community, and are recognized and developed to best meet the needs of both the child/youth and the family.

These services are made available through a variety of funding sources including the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS/MR/DD) waiver. Through the HCBS waiver and other funding sources, all services can be tailored to meet the individual and family need.

Some of the services include:

Case Management (service coordination)
Respite care (the temporary relief from caring for a person with a disability)
Attendant Care with the services of personal attendant in the child/youth's home beginning at age 5
Assistance with transportation, financial, medical and other issues
Advocacy and support with educational issues
And other needs related to the child/youth and as funding is available

Baseball

To provide further support, staff are available to provide assistance in seeking funding for services, locate other services, as well as provide assistance in developing family support systems, whereby families are empowered to help themselves and others.

Individual and family support services allow children and youth to receive services in their homes while they wait for any future needed services. It also provides the opportunity for other individuals to remain in their natural or foster homes, thus avoiding out-of -community institutional placements.

Each child/youth is provided individualized services that are addressed in the Life Plan , a document created to address the person's needs, preferences and interests as they progresses from infancy to adulthood. These services are delivered in a manner that provides a smooth transition between services, service providers and programs thus avoiding the loss of any necessary services for the child or the family.
