BIRDS and BLOOMS/GARDENING
CLASS DESCRIPTION: If you love to get dirty and love to see things grow this class is for you! Students in this class will experience the whole process of gardening. We will design our own garden area, select out own plants, care for it from start to finish. Once harvested, we will learn about a variety of ways of what to do with our plants. this could include being sold, cooked or entered into the local county fair. Lab experiences will include presentations from two local garden centers. Further exciting happenings will include the development of a bird sanctuary to entice birds to visit us.
HEALTH & SAFETY
CLASS DESCRIPTION: This is one of the required classes to be taken every three years. It is designed to teach basic skills and knowledge necessary to identify potentially harmful situations, and to be able to treat common injuries, illnesses, and to respond in emergency situations.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
CLASS DESCRIPTION: this class will provide fun and recreation. It will include a variety of activities such as, teaching principles of hygiene, nutrition, and general physical care. We will be studying the importance of proper diet, exercise and taking care of yourself. Videos and lab experiences will be used to enhance the learning. So come along with me as we enjoy learning new games, sports, and keeping fit.
COMMUNITY INTERACTIONS CLASS
CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this class the individuals will be involved in the community. We will learn about different clubs, groups, boards and organizations in Rawlins County. Some class members may want to join some of these groups as they learn more about them. We hope to build relationships with the youth and older members of our community and everyone in between. Come join the class for nonstop activities and learning about our community.
LANGUAGE ARTS
CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this class we will brush up on our reading skills and develop a Prairie Developmental Center Newsletter. Sight words will be taught every day to further improve our reading skills. Also games will be incorporated to make the learning fun. On a rotating basis, one person will read to another person in the class out of a book they have chosen at the end of each class.
BIBLE STORIES
CLASS DESCRIPTION: The stories of the Bible are enjoyed by everyone, so come join us on an exciting adventure of the old stories out of the old and new testament.
WORLD CULTURES & CULTURAL DIVERSITIES
CLASS DESCRIPTION: We will continue this semester in our adventure to travel back in time to see how man lived long ago all over the world. We will take a closer look at the Cultural Diversities, and how we are different from each other in our cultures.
THE 1970's and 1980's
CLASS DESCRIPTION: Come take a trip through the 1970's and 1980"s remembering important people, events, entertainment, sports, technology and lifestyles.
ABUSE PREVENTION FOR MEN
CLASS DESCRIPTION: This is one of the required classes to be taken every three years. The class teaches a decision making process regarding sexual abuse prevention. The class will be covering the recognition of body parts, proper terminology, self empowerment and ways to say "NO".
DAILY COMPREHENSION/HOLIDAY'S
CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this class we will be using a set of books that offer a different nonfiction (true) story for each day of the month. The stories that will be chosen, will be of particular significance to the date. These are high interest low vocabulary stories that are followed by hands-on activities. The stories are designed to improve overall reading comprehension while focusing on specific skills. So, if you want to see what happens on you "birthday" then come join us.
We will also have fun learning about the Holiday's and Traditions that will occur during this semester. We will be learning about different origins and the history of each holiday as they occur. We will be creating crafts which our decorations will be displayed around the center.
Join us as we learn about many holiday's through out the world!
AGING WELL
CLASS DESCRIPTION: This class is for those of us who are approaching retirement age. We will be learning and exploring different ways to enjoy our leisure time. We will be doing activities such as puzzles, playing games, reading the newspaper, books, and making crafts. We will take outings to the museum, library, and to the store or donut shop for a cup of coffee. We will plan a short trip or two out of town to visit other museums or craft fairs.
UNITED STATES HISTORY
CLASS DESCRIPTION: The individuals in this class will be learning the history of our country. They will learn about our Founding Fathers, wars our country has been involved, including the race for space, and who our next President might be. We will watch historical movies as we go along. Come join the fun in learning about our country.
NATIONAL PARKS
CLASS DESCRIPTION: In this class we will be using our Reader's Digest books and National Parks Service official web site to learn about where the parks are, and to see how beautiful they are. We will be exploring what National Park is the closest to our location, and plan a visit to this park.
SCIENCE AND INSECTS
CLASS DESCRIPTION: this class is a favorite of persons served. This semester, we will order Painted Lady Butterfly Larva, perform experiments with the caterpillars, watch them grow, and turn into lovely butterflies. when they all hatch, we will release the butterflies outside. Come join the fun while learning about other insects, and doing other fun science activities and experiments.

We will be warming up with a few exercises and then be walking at the Community Building or in the community. We will return to the center and take a moment to rest and talk about the miles we have walked. We hope to visit with different community members during this activity.
Taekwondo
A community instructor will be teaching this class. The instructor is a Second Degree Black Belt. She will be instructing you in learning the Yellow Belt form.
Multicultural Learning
The best way to understand and appreciate another culture is by meeting its people, eating its food, listening to its music, and by creating its arts and crafts. This class will look at the many different cultures and traditions around the world and in the United States and Canada.

Join the residents of Thomas County at the Pioneer Memorial Library. During this class you can check out books and magazines, or read local and national newspapers. Join us as we catch up on current events at the library.
Amazing Facts

American's with Disabilities
During this class, we will be reading stories of Americans with disabilities who have overcome many obstacles.

Phonics Fun
This unit of study will focus on introducing you to clue words for the sound of each letter. Basic phonics flash cards will make this a fun learning experience.
Music
This unit will explore the world of sound...covering the history, varieties of music, musical instruments, and many other related musical topics. Enjoy listening and learn to appreciate a wide range of musical genre.

Mini Mysteries
Come put your detective skills to work. You will be asked to analyze the situation and predict the outcomes. The class may sharpen skills by playing a game of clue.

Internet Music
Listen and enjoy the music from the internet during this class. Learn to navigate the computer to find the music that you enjoy. Learn about different musicians, their life, and their type of music.
Maps and Geography
Learn to interpret map legends, keys, symbols and scales, so you can travel across the United States. Identify cities, boundaries, rivers, capitols, and landmarks in all 50 States.

Basic Academics
This class will be a refresher of those basic skills. Reading, writing and math will be topics during this time of study. These basic academic topics are sure to improve your skills with math, reading, and writing.

Self Advocacy
This class will evaluate the strengths and needs of each individual. It will explore the concept of advocacy, teach the verbal and nonverbal language of advocacy, show concrete examples of advocacy, and will teach individuals to work together as a team to achieve a goal. This unit will teach lessons that are largely dependent on individuals choice, abilities, and learning styles. This will be a class to learn to gain independence and self-determination without infringing on the rights and privileges of others.
Math, Money and Budgets
Learn basic math and money skills. Some of these include counting, identifying coins, addition and subtraction, and learning to set up a budget.

Exploration Center (Sensory)
Class Description: Do you ever feel you need a jump-start to get going during the day? Do you ever feel that you are so overwhelmed you just want to find a corner and hide? Are you easily distracted or have a hard time sitting still in class? If so, then this is the class for you! Class Description: In this class, students will learn about the many animals found in the world, both threatened and endangered, as well as the environment that sustains our planet. Subjects included will be animal diets, population, locations, classifications and behavior. Videos and books from the library as well as lab experiences will be included. Class Description: Viquarium is a semi-aquatic terrarium which is a combination of water and land. Reptiles and amphibians like frogs, salamanders and lizards are suited to the semi-aquatic terrariums. The wondrous diversity of these many creatures have intrigued and fascinated people wince the beginning of humanity. In the last few years, there has been an explosion of interest for these kinds of animals as pets. This class will teach the basic knowledge of taking care of these creatures and discover why reptiles and amphibians make good pets. Class Description: Students will have the opportunity to learn how to set up and maintain an aquarium. The class will learn about very different kinds of fish, both salt water and fresh water. Class Description: This class will study the importance of health and safety. Maintaining good health, proper diet, exercise and an appropriate amount of rest will be discussed. We will also discuss what can make us ill and how to take care of ourselves and others in times of sickness and when we are injured. Also included will be lessons covering basic aid training. Class Description: The "CIRCLES" program assists students in learning to discriminate the different levels of intimacy and to adjust behavior accordingly. Students will learn how relationships are formed and maintained according to what's socially acceptable. This class allows students to develop values and appreciate diversity in society.
